Loss and Grief Awareness Training

Aim of this training

The aim of this training is to provide participants with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to recognise and respond to loss and grief in a compassionate, informed, and supportive way.

By the end of the training, participants will have a greater understanding of the many forms of grief, the emotional impact that loss can have on individuals, and practical, evidence-based approaches to offering effective support. The training also aims to help participants identify when additional support may be needed and how to signpost individuals to appropriate services when required.

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for care home staff, charities, professionals, volunteers, and individuals who want to develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to support people experiencing loss and grief.

Delivered by Rosedale Training, which has been providing Loss and Grief Training for over three years, the course is appropriate for anyone whose role involves supporting others through challenging life experiences.

What does this training cover?

This training provides a comprehensive understanding of loss and grief, equipping participants with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to support individuals experiencing a wide range of losses.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding grief and recognising that it extends beyond bereavement following a death.
  • Exploring the different types of loss, including loss of employment, illness, separation or divorce, unmet or lost opportunities, and other significant life changes.
  • The emotional, psychological, and behavioural impact of grief on individuals.
  • Practical, evidence-based approaches to supporting people who are grieving.
  • Effective techniques and strategies that can be applied confidently in real-life situations.
  • Recognising when someone may require additional or specialist support.
  • Guidance on appropriate signposting to relevant services and sources of further help.

Training approach and learning outcomes

This training is interactive and discussion-based, providing a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to engage in discussions and activities, but there is no expectation or pressure to share personal experiences.

The training recognises that grief is a universal human experience and highlights the importance of providing timely, compassionate support. Early intervention can:
