Rosedale Training is proud to have delivered Bereavement Awareness Training for Sapientia Education Trust schools as the new academic year begins for children across the country. As schools reopened and staff gathered for the first Professional Development Day of the year, we were delighted to be invited by Sapientia Education Trust to deliver specialist Schools Bereavement Training to colleagues across the trust. It was an inspiring day filled with openness, reflection, and a shared commitment to ensuring every child feels safe, understood, and supported. The training focused on empowering staff to feel confident and equipped to support children and young people experiencing bereavement or significant loss not only in the classroom, but across the wider school community. Participants explored how grief can affect learning, behaviour, relationships and emotional wellbeing, and how compassionate, informed responses from trusted adults can make a life-changing difference. Why this training matters Bereavement and loss affect far more pupils than many people realise: By the age of 16, approximately 1 in 20 young people will have experienced the death of one or both parents. Around 78% of secondary school pupils have experienced a significant loss. By the age of 16, approximately 1 in 20 young people...

A new book launches this autumn to provide support and practical help for those who have lost a loved one at one of the most difficult parts of the day – mealtimes. Cooking For One, which is published on September 15, aims to help people navigate or rediscover the joy of cooking after losing a loved one. It features a host of recipes supplied by those who are starting a new chapter in their life after losing someone and have supplied dishes which are important to them. The recipes mix simple meals for those new to finding their way around the kitchen, wholesome and nutritious recipes, and some decadent dishes too. The book is the idea of Simon Beckett-Allen, who co-owns Rosedale Funeral Home which has bases around Norfolk and Suffolk. He was inspired to create it in memory of his late sister, who was a chef. The proceeds of the book will support Cruse Bereavement Care, which is the largest charity of its type and supports over 50,000 people dealing with grief each year. Simon wanted to draw on his own experiences to help others and believes the stories of those who have been through a similar experience to...

Staff at Red Oak Primary School have benefited from complimentary bereavement training provided by Rosedale Training and Nature and Nurture Therapeutic Services. Research has shown that one in seven school age pupils will experience the death of a significant person in their lives. Without intervention the risk of self-harm, drug, alcohol use and teenage pregnancy significantly increases. Nelson’s Journey, a charity which supports bereaved children in Norfolk, discovered that 47% of bereaved 18-year olds had experimented with drugs compared to 20% of those who lived with both parents. By empowering staff in schools with the knowledge to feel confident in their terminology and approach, it is hoped that many more young people can be given the much-needed support and resources they need. One of the participants commented: ‘I have had nothing but positive feedback following the training-overwhelming praise from some-which is well deserved-it was indeed excellent.’ Rosedale Training is passionate about promoting bereavement training across schools in Norfolk and Suffolk and urge schools to take advantage of the training which is free of charge. For further information please click here or email Lucy@rosedalefuneralhome.co.uk to organise training for your school cluster.
