Mental Health First Aid course launches

Mental Health First Aid course

With one in four people in the UK affected by a Mental Health Condition in their lifetime, it has never been more important for employers to start taking their responsibility for the well-being of their staff seriously.

Anne Beckett-Allen from Rosedale Training has extended her portfolio of courses, usually aimed solely at the funeral profession but now offered to a wider audience, adding the two-day Mental Health First Aid for adults, certified by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England

MHFA England is the national licensed organisation for MHFA training – www.mhfaengland.org

Mental Health First Aid operates in a similar way to physical first aid, and the aims are to preserve life, prevent further harm, promote recovery and provide comfort.  The course won’t teach you to be a counsellor or therapist, but will enable delegates to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis, which is relevant for everyone in the local community.

“I know first-hand how difficult the transition from work to home life can be for employees working under pressure and I know many people turn to alcohol to help them, and many more struggle to get a good night of sleep.” Says Anne.  “With suicide now the leading cause of death for men under 50, it is time to stop sweeping mental health issues under the carpet – any employer worth their salt should be taking mental health seriously and investing in the well-being of their staff.”

“Employers have a duty of care to their employees, which means that they should take all steps which are reasonably possible to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing. Demonstrating concern for the physical and mental health of your workers shouldn’t just be seen as a legal duty – there’s a clear business case, too.  Organisations perform better when their staff are healthy, motivated and focused.  Smart employers support employees who are experiencing mental health problems to cope and recover. The support people receive from employers is key in determining how well and how quickly they are able to get back to peak performance.”

The course will give a deeper understanding of the issues that impact on and relate to people’s mental health and will teach practical skills that can be used every day.  Independent research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA course raises awareness, reduces stigma around mental ill health, boosts knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues, encourages people to start a conversation with a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue and promotes early intervention which enables recovery.

This two-day course is taking place in Diss on 6th and 7th March and is valued by MHFA England at £300 per delegate.  There are just two places left now and booking is essential.  Everyone who attends will receive a copy of the MHFA manual and workbook, which are both excellent support resources. When you have completed the course, you will also receive a certificate to confirm that you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.
